Galloping Gumnut - Mobile Children's Service
Galloping Gumnut is a Mobile Children’s Service that provides a quality early childhood program to families living and working in regional and rural communities.
Our focus is around building trusting family and community connections.
while providing social and educational experiences for children and families who live in regional and rural areas.
“Play is learning”. The focus is supporting each child’s growth and development in a positive learning environment. Galloping Gumnut's program embraces the principles of the Early Years Learning Framework; the sense of being, becoming and belonging for children 0-5yrs and 'My Time Our Place for school age children. Each child has the opportunity to develop, grow and interact as a unique individual. The Educators work closely with parents and carers to support family cultural practices, beliefs and values.
Galloping Gumnuts' team comprises qualified and experienced Educators as well as finance and administration staff. The staff team have a variety of expertise and specialised skills that enhance and extend the program and service delivery (Click here to view our Staff page).
Galloping Gumnut is an Incorporated, not-for-profit, community based Association that receives funding from both Federal and State governments to provide education and care. When a child is enrolled in our Service, at least one parent or carer must become a member of our Association.
The Association is operated by a volunteer Management Committee, comprising seven members, usually made up of parents. Interested members from the communities in which we operate are also welcome to join the Committee. The Management Committee are elected at the Annual General Meeting each year (Click here to view our Management Committee page).
WHERE DO WE GO?
The communities we visit are:
Preschool – Our preschool session caters for children between 3-5 years. The sessions are lead by an Early Childhood Teacher who is supported by an experienced Advanced Childcare Worker. The session runs for 6 hours.
Play Sessions – Our play sessions cater for children from birth to school age. The sessions run up to 2 ½ hours. Parents are present at the sessions and have care of their children. Play sessions offer an extensive early childhood program that involves play based learning activities and experiences in both group and individual situations. Parents are encouraged and supported in developing their knowledge of child development and parenting skills, whilst enjoying the opportunity of networking with others.
Toy Library – Individuals, playgroups or schools are welcome to join our Toy Library service. We offer quality toys and equipment which can be borrowed on a fortnightly/monthly basis.
Literacy Sessions – These sessions are run at local playgroups in the Lithgow area. The staff provides an interactive, educational literacy session which involves either a book reading; story telling; group game or music/movement.
